About Subcision

Subcision is a simple and safe procedure used to treat cutaneous scars and wrinkles. It is performed using a special device, which is inserted through a puncture in the skin surface. This method is used to treat skin scars that are tethered down to the skin layer. Treatment must be selected considering the scar type to achieve best results.

Which skin problems can be treated using Subcision?

Subcision treatment is a great option for individuals who have deep facial scars. It is an excellent option for rolling acne scars, chicken-pox scars, stretchable scars from injury or surgery and deep wrinkles. This treatment has no downtime, and has a very high safety value with minimal risks. In addition, subcision can be combined with other treatment modalities.

How Subcision works?

A special device which can help access the area beneath the skin, is used to perform the subcision procedure; the edge of the device is used to break fibrotic strands that are tethering the scar to the underlying tissue. The mechanical action of the device, along with the release of the scar tissue creates a pocket beneath the skin. Blood accumulates in the treated area due to disruption of the blood vessels. The blood helps to prevent reattachment of the scars for a short term. Later, reorganisation of blood occurs in the healing phase and growth factors are released. This creates an opportunity for the connective tissue and collagen regeneration and further reorganisation of soft tissues beneath the skin. All these events eventually help remove the scar.
